Shoma Chatterji

I am a Bengali woman, 62 years old, married with one daughter who lives with her husband. I have one grandson who visits me for three days a week and we dote on him. I am a freelance journalist by profession and obsession and passion. I have been freelancing for 25 years. I am also an author of 17 books composed of fiction and non-fiction. For non-fiction, I specialise in cinema and in gender but also write urban culture and anthropology.
I have won two national awards for my writing on cinema, one state award for the Best Film Critic, one private award for "Excellence in Journalism" and one commendation for "outstanding contribution to women's issues" from a national women's magazine that has closed down now. I am also a fellow of the National Film Archive of India currently researching 12 films by 12 filmmakers, all men, studying one film each directed by them focussed on women. I believe in honesty, hard work and commitment to relationships within and without the family and to my work.
